Russia’s Raiffeisenbank and MasterCard report the results of the charity campaign «Go shopping and give hope»

At the end of the MasterCard campaign Go shopping and give hope, held from January 1 to March 31, 2013, RUB 34 million will be transferred from MasterCard from its equity to the movement Together Against Cancer, which the campaign was organized to support. The money will be spent on research and development of new treatments for cancer in the course of translational research in oncology.

With each transaction made by the MasterCard and Maestro cards in outlets in Russia, MasterCard donated 10 cents to the fight against cancer. The campaign Go shopping and give hope was the first charity campaign of this magnitude held by MasterCard in Russia.

In the campaign Go shopping and give hope ZAO Raiffeisenbank customers were also involved, by using their MasterCard or Maestro cards when paying for purchases.

Cancer remains the number one cause of death and, despite its prevalence, it remains an under-researched disease. By joining forces, together with the movement Together Against Cancer, we have come closer to achieving our common goal  victory over cancer. MasterCard is sending RUB 34 million of its equity to the movement Together Against Cancer on translational research in oncology. We thank all the partners who have joined our initiative, and, of course, all the cardholders who supported the campaign, says Ilya Riaby, Head of MasterCard in Russia, Armenia and Belarus.

We are pleased to support MasterCard in this charity campaign, which more than one million Raiffeisenbank cardholders were able to take part in. Of particular importance in this campaign was that it was very simple to help people, by just paying for purchases by cards. The funds from MasterCard will be donated to research funded by the movement Together Against Cancer. Half of the funds will be sent to the organization TRIO (Translational Research in Oncology) and will be used for building strong research teams in cancer clinics in Russia and training of personnel for innovative research trials, particularly in the field of breast cancer. Thanks to these efforts an important goal will be achieved  to form independent teams of scientists who are able to participate in other studies for the benefit of science, their medical facilities and most importantly, their patients. The second half of the funds will be donated to studies being conducted abroad.

Together Against Cancer makes it possible for top scientists to work together, encouraging the union, not the competition of scientific efforts. With the support of show business, Together Against Cancer initiative provides a wide public resonance.

TRIO (Translational Research in Oncology)- an international non-profit organization dedicated to the development of translational cancer research methods that make it possible to conduct clinical trials of selected innovative and highly specialized treatments. An international network of 2,000 scientists from 450 cancer centres, which are located in 45 countries, allows TRIO to conduct groundbreaking research, picking up closer to the discovery of a universal systemic treatment of the disease.
